Long Form Bio

Pete Van Dyk is a stand up comedian and podcaster who grew up on a tobacco farm in rural Canada. He was persuaded to abandon his comedic ambitions to pursue a successful, yet soul crushing, career in Commercial Finance. In 2008 and 2009, he was recognized as one of the top lenders in the country, with the FCC’s President’s Club Award. Shortly after, at age 39, Pete left the world of finance forever to pursue his own interests.

Leaving a conventional living to pursue a career in comedy or any artistic or non-conventional field, would cause anyone to suffer a crisis of conscience, and Pete was no exception. His struggles with mental illness, his journey toward recovery and his current understanding of what it means to live a healthy life with the struggles of mental illness allow Pete to speak honestly about these subjects, providing humourous insights that resonate with many people of all walks of life.

In 2013, Pete started the weekly podcast, The Dutch Hall with Pete Van Dyk. With nearly 400 published episodes and over 100,000 downloads from all over the globe, The Dutch Hall has been a regular feature on the Apple Podcast Stand Up charts in a number of countries. You can watch the livestream on YouTube and Facebook or listen wherever you listen to podcasts.

In 2018, Pete was diagnosed with non-hodgkin’s lymphoma, a disease that he currently lives with. His experiences with this difficult subject matter have allowed his to find levity in a terrible disease that has affected so many people in this world.

The majority of Pete’s material comes from his efforts to be a good father and husband. His honest takes of relatable problems and his struggles to do the right thing make Pete’s stories a window into our own insecurities allowing us to laugh at the problems we share. Above all else, Pete’s jokes are an escape from the things we take seriously in life. Life is too serious not to laugh at.

Pete is also the owner and founder of Spiky Ball Live Comedy, a Live Comedy Production Company. They produce shows for fundraisers, bar and nightclubs, corporate events and private parties.
